  I wrote and directed this movie, and I think 3 stars is the appropriate rating. Maybe +/- a half star, but the lower or higher you go the more I feel like the rating probably has more to do with the day you’re having than the merits of the movie. And that’s fine, that’s how it works. 

  Cinematography, score, and lead performances are all pretty undeniable because I had the good sense to find brilliant collaborators and give them space…

  Before yesterday, I had no real experience with Cabaret outside the movie. Yesterday, I went to the NYPL Theater on Film and Tape archive and watched the recording of the 1987 revival (fabulous!) then rolled right over to the August Wilson Theatre to see Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club (oh, no thank you!) and now I'm up early watching this old video of Sam Mendes' revival with Alan Cumming and it's all for work and baby it's called "Living my best life"
