    This line stuck out to me because it is so honest. Charles’s conflict in the story is that he wants what he can’t have i.e. Sebastian and Julia. Their internal turmoil puts them out of Charles’s reach. Julia seems to carry so much Catholic guilt that she can’t, in good conscience, marry a secular man.
