Barry Lyndon 1975
Astonishingly beautiful (especially gorgeous Mrs Lyndon staring pallidly and vaporishly into the middle distance). Ryan O’Neal has plenty of runtime to get his Irish accent under control but never quite does, which in my mind only serves to underscore Barry’s status as a gauche outsider to the continent’s wigged-up upper crust. And there’s an emotional depth along with the antics (ie not just a picturesque picaresque).
