Now that we are a year or so removed from from the release of this it seems like the film can be reevaluated through the lens with which Scorsese intended. I remember there being a lot of chatter about presenting this story from the pov of the white criminals as opposed to the native victims or whether it was right that Scorsese be the one to tell this story. Those remain fair critiques but ultimately not what I’m personally interested…

This is on the short list of movies I have and will say are my favorite of all time. I just love everything about Out Of Sight. It’s sexy, funny, scary, stylish, has an impeccable cast and Soderbergh at the peak of his powers. It would be easy for a movie that tries to balance so many things to be a mess but not this film. The vibe shifts and color scheme changes are handled perfectly. The comedy and the drama…

Taken on its own, this is a decent enough horror movie. The cgi is terrible and it’s not scary at all but you know, Mary Elizabeth Winsted innocent and whatnot. Taken in relation to the Carpenter movie, well, uh yeah. No.

Fuck it, guess I’ll watch all the Saw movies. This is the only one I have ever seen and it has been 20 years. My tastes have changed and I’m much more open to horror now so maybe that explains why I like it a lot more now than I did then. I don’t think it’s a great film but I liked it enough to give the whole dumb series a watch.

RIP to one of the best and most unique filmmakers of all time. This is his masterpiece. A stunning work of art that belies a single interpretation. It is beautiful, funny, erotic, terrifying and confounding. In short, it is life and art summed up. You may not understand all of what is happening but you’re not likely to forget it either. The world got a little less weird, a lot less compassionate and even worse today. I hope they let David smoke cigarettes in heaven.
