Over the Hedge 2006
This is one of the most early 2000’s animated films around, I say that with a tad less reverence than I would normally, eagerly give out. The good, the bad and the ugly of that era is all here. The random quirky humour occasionally dipping into crass, ill-fitting pop culture references, Hammy the squirrel just in general reeks of a different time. It’s mostly endearing, though. I like a cookie.
The writing surrounding the animals' perspective of the human world…

Wendell & Wild 2022
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Henry Selick, now there’s a real visionary. Not that disney-huffing, money-grubbing racist Tim Burton, why, his movies don't even have 15 different characters of varying ethnicities competing for screen-time! Luckily the TRUE mastermind behind Nightmare Before Christmas has arrived to save stop-motion from The Man!
I don’t take it as a particularly good sign that Wendell and Wild is touted as a champion of diversity and yet praise surrounding this film has very little to say about how good it…

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker 2019
Watch a designed-by-committee movie mega-franchise have a panic attack in real-time as it attempts to lurch its bloated corpse to the finish line after the phenomenal de-railing mess the last terrible film left this trilogy in. A special kind of IP collapse that must be seen to be believed, watching it at the pictures gave me a special kind of headache. Super bass force lightning was way funnier than it should have been and ever was intended to be.

The Whale 2022
It's watching a fat person die for two hours. That's quite a sell- and the gruesome, grisly spectacle of it all is really something to behold, Brendan Fraser's performance is every bit as enchanting and authentic as he always is. He has a way of reeling you into the whole experience- even as you're paradoxically pulled away from it by the writing. It's just... the more I learned about Charlie's tragedy, the less interested I became. It's melodramatic and silly. Maybe I just have better outlets, I dunno.
