Maybe cinema is the only topic I can meaningfully make sense of...
and theater
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Eggers is a cult director. dark , atmospheric, gothic AF. An amazing tempo, maybe too fast in the trip to the castle, but gets steady and uncanny. The creature , Orlok, hidden in the shadows until the end. New horror unlocked .
Happy to see a 100 year old re interpretation of this amazing film that stills make us shiver.
For me it was a lot of weight put on the obsession of the creature to the girl. Does he really needed her permission?
Also would have love a bit more of brutality, not gore.
Vampires are always a good monster to connect to politic and human abusive nature.
It always brings hope to see this topics openly debated in a movie.
Aesthetics, cinematography and ocasional music built a cotton candy/dangerous athmosphere.
I need to confess I was confused many times during the movie as to WHERE everything was going. I had all kind of expectations from the trailer, from synopsis and none of them were even close to the film.
Its unpredictable and its a rollercoaster not in the best sense.
