  I loved the aesthetic. Neo Tokyo, as LA in Blade Runner before it, looks insane.

  However, the second act is a bit messy and the overall plot is hard to follow at times, which is not negative by itself, but in my humble opinion it does not help the movie to get its message across. Akira deals with very heavy stuff and some clarity in the narration would definitely help.

  Either way, this film is remarkably ambitious and completely mesmerizing. It is not hard to see why it has been (and still is) so influential. Deserves a second (and a third) watch.
