Pleasingly short and works really fine. A mixture of everything you might like about asian horror. A good amount of more or less scary scenes. A big praise for not finding a single jump scare in the whole movie. Only working with atmosphere is always the better way.
The big problem is clearly the story and the characters, which are both nothing more than cliches.
I mean... I'm up at hours I would prefer not to be awake in. Looking to relax myself back to sleep, so I put on this film and it served me well

i have to admit that i was playing animal crossing while watching this so i didn't give it my full attention, therefore, it's not really fair for me to rate this but i'm going to do it anyway. the fact that it never really grabbed my attention says enough.
Short Sigapore-set supernatural spookiness - young military trainees trade ghost stories, become stories themselves after an ill-fated training exercise, more wronged women lashing out with ghostly vengeance - plenty going on. Lots of flashbacks, and crams a lot of developments into the last 20min or so, leading to a bit of overfull feeling for the runtime.
Not super scary but interesting enough, and I like the whole deal of stories, especially tragic tales, urban legends, modern folklore, and the way they're shaped by the way they're told, the things that get passed along tangentially, hitching a ride on the legend.
And there's an unexpected bit of Heavily Deformed person prosthetic makeup stuff.
Horror Hunt #68 (February 2024)
6. Singapore
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
This ghost story centered around the ghastly terrors faced by some young army recruits on a tropical island just outside Singapore is admirably performed and clocks in at a slick 78 minutes that keep things running smoothly. The spooks and scares are satisfying enough, and there's an underlying theme of superstition vs. rationality (something that I will always enjoy in my horror films). The characters shifting between speaking English and Chinese was interesting, and I guess that may be a characteristic of Singapore cinema.
There's nothing overly groundbreaking here. But on the other hand it doesn't drag on for nearly 2 hours and it is a good ghost story that just gets the job done. The same can't be said for many others horror films I've seen in my days.

Supposedly based on a true story that happened in Pulau Tekong in 1983, the film follows an army recruit named Jeremy whose platoon is haunted by ghosts.
It was hard to rate this film for me. There are a lot of interesting ideas, but the execution falls through. The runtime is short, yet parts seem wasted and others not explored enough. Like, it would have been nice to know more about the female ghosts, to learn a little more back story, rather than spend…

Somewhat creepy ghost story set on an island at an army camp. A few effective scares and a decent story….some of the dialogue (the parts in English) were pretty terrible though.

Kind of dull story, and dull scares, and dull ghosts, and dull ending. There is a good idea in this movie but nothing nothing else.
my favorite part was when a character would go: “don’t you know the story/legend/curse of this bathroom/platoon/island?” and it’d cut to a flashback......i guess my favorite part was the whole movie
Hooptober Ocho: The Only Way to Stop a Bad Guy with a Chainsaw is a Good Guy with a Chainsaw - Asian
Ghosts on a military base! It's perfectly okay. It's competently made and slightly spooky. I guess due to it being set on a military base, there is a touch of homophobia. Almost no effects to speak of outside of a little bit of makeup in the third act. Kudos for not overstaying its welcome. It's barely an hour long!
