A movie from a time when Akshay Kumar used to churn 2 good movies a year and he wasn't an openly fascist supporter. Good times.
Airlift... Many of audience(including myself) went on the assumption of it is going to be like Argo... But it wasn't... And I am glad it wasn't... Airlift doesn't try to make the story over dramatic or try to force people to be patriotic... It is story that connects with you... How we behave once we leave our home country and settler somewhere else where we have got respect and money and a lifestyle... But when a tragedy strikes, every human being in the world remembers his mother... In Airlift the mother is India... There are moments of emotions and background songs which reflect the emotions... I can understand them as the target audience is Indian... Akshay Kumar he delivers one…
Airlift is not an exceptional film nor is it some typical overdramatic Bollywood crap. It's an okayish film which does well in bits and pieces, through it's decent cinematography and sterling performances from lead actor and character artists.
The good bits -
Akshay Kumar. Commanding, ever present and spontaneous. Star of the show.
Supporting casts. Apart from Nimrat Kaur's make-up most of them had some sense of urgency, fluency and delivered naturally.
Cinematography. Pretty good, gritty. Would have loved a few more aerial stuff.
Production design. From a gulf region amateur's eyes not much looked out of place.
The crappy parts -
Story. Abruptly ended without any proper build up while the pre-interval stuff was slow and stretched. Not at…
the way Nimrat looks at Akki is how I look at Akki while watching his films (I love him sm)
> The largest reported evacuation( 1,70,000) in the world is shown with the help of a dozen cars and buses and one flight.
> The real life hero was Mr Mathunny Mathews and Mr Vedi and not Rajiv Khatyal.
> Akshay Kumar was fine, the problem is that the movie becomes more about depicting him as a hero over everything else.
> The biggest fault is that the actual airlift is not at all shown and was supposed to thrilling and packed with tension which is hardly there. The resemblance to Argo cannot be denied.
> Nimrat Kaur is dressed impeccably the whole movie even when a crisis is going on. She was basically hired for the long monologue.
> Akshay's attitude towards his country men changes…
Could have been better in some technicalities but emotionally it's a good movie, there are some dialogues which are really impactful..
One time watch only but must watch for fans of historical drama and those interested in stories of human resilience.

Airlift: Never Takes Flight
“So what is Ranjit Katyal worth?”
Raja Krishna Menon’s Airlift is very committed to its mediocrity. Akshay’s character Ranjit has a fascinating character arc. He isn’t proud to be Indian until he’s placed in a situation that makes him question his beliefs and values. A selfish man has a change of heart and does his best to save his people. It introduces a dance number early on that is poorly placed. In fact, barring the final song none of the songs are necessary. This is an action thriller and adding these songs only derail the placing. The first act is poorly made. The initial interactions between Ranjit and his wife Amrita are so poorly done. The…
Living in Kuwait this was a hugeees deal when it came out. Like the hype around it was insane.
But the film got banned here cuz it said something against the Government lmao. We had to wait until the VOD release to see it
Film nasionalis ala India. Based from a true event. Boleh juga. Sampai nggak sadar ikutan nyanyi karena ada teks lagu di subtitlenya.
Bayangin deh nyanyi-nyanyi di tengah kondisi ratusan ribu warga terjebak di negara perang. 😂.
Good story line, pathetic execution.... Looks like a complete mess. Thumbs up to Akshay Kumar, Purab Kohli and Nimrat Kaur who tried so hard to make this piece of crap a good genuine film.
