A four member family from Ayodhya, headed by conservative, religious patriarch, Balram, his wife Janaki, daughter Shivani and son Sonu goes on a spiritual trip to Rameswaram. Things get complicated when Janki dies in an accident and the two kids endures at the hands of their fervently devout father. A Rameswaram localite, friend of the cab driver involved, with his other friend decides to help the family in returning their mother's remains to their homeland, despite all odds.

The melodrama gets treated in an old fashioned convenient manner and is indeed predictable, but given our currently delicate socio political climate, the stress on human values and love over every man created difference, takes very much high precedence. Though the plot line is simple, it has its heart in the right place and touches upon many relevant topics. Technically, it is passable and the performances are moving. Despite of the shortcomings, when all said n done, it ends up as one emotionally gratifying experience.
Death is indeed a profound teacher of life. Perhaps, it is death that reminds us to be humane and that the greatest loss is what dies inside us when we are alive. And only the unsparing death of our close ones teaches us the value of life and makes us realise that we are all just a speck of dust in the universe. Ayothi, an emotional drama, serves as a reminder for us to stay grounded and rise above the manufactured plague that comes in various names called religion, caste, creed, and race.

cinema often reminds me of what kind of hopeless world we live in, but some films prove me wrong that there's some hope and humanity left somewhere in the corner. Ayothi falls in the same flavour of hopeless cinema with so much heart and soul, which sorta becomes melodramatic along the way. A Love Letter to Humanity. No heroine,no villain, no formula yet too engaging. Purely a subjective film that revolves around a specific incident with proceedings happening over a single day entirely. Some cinematic liberties aside, this is a well intentioned film that rides high on emotions. An anti-thesis to the current hate filled political climate. The Girl who played Shivani was fantastic.

This is one of those rare instances where we have to completely throw out the conventional movie reviewing out the window and just let the emotions navigate. The director's heart is in the right place and the message that he's trying to say is registered clearly at the end. Writing wise it is a bit flawed, I just didn't expect it have an effect on me. A lot of eye-wetting moments towards the end when you see the impact of Sasikumar's character. Loved how even Pugazh played a good supporting role. Keep an open mind and give this a watch if you haven't yet.
