I was laughing at the end like ‘what?’
This was just a strange film. It’s all strange despite a lot of it being straightforward and not a lot of stuff even happening. I could probably think of 100 questions to ask about the goings on in this, but I don’t think I care enough to want the answers.
What did I just watch? Somebody explain this to me, please.
See that poster with Jennifer Love Hewitt being all sweet and lovely, the soft lighting and twee title making it seem like a throwaway comedy drama with a hint of romance all set in a cafe? Yeah that's what I thought, something quick and easy on another hectic day.
Well fuck me dead was I wrong. This was one of the weirdest and most tonally mental films I've ever seen. I cannot adequately describe the left turns and sheer wtfness of it. I nearly applauded when it finished for being so confident and strange. I can't spoil it, I wouldn't know how.
Obviously it's pretty crap but you've got to watch it. Ammy-P before Bezos takes it down. What a ride.
This is an old review. Said boyfriend is now my ex, and I no longer live in Philadelphia.
This movie is nothing particularly special, or else, it wouldn't be if my boyfriend hadn't been a production assistant on it (and drove both Jennifer Love Hewitt and Jamie Kennedy around in his crappy old Toyota Camry as a chauffeur during filming--for the record, he says Hewitt was nice and Kennedy was annoyed when my boyfriend didn't know he grew up in Upper Darby, a Philly suburb) and it didn't feature my workplace as the exterior shots of the cafe. The interior of the cafe is definitely not the real interior (he tells me they shot it in what used to be…
There's a good movie hidden somewhere in Café, but it doesn't ever climb to the surface.
During certain scenes it comes close, but then it always falls short.
The overall plot is practically non-existent, which is not necessarily a bad thing in films, but in this case it is.
The whole film takes place in this café, where the characters meet, interact, argue, observe, etc.
The café serves as a sort of vacuum, a world in itself. We never see the outside world clearly, the shades in the café are always drawn, and the light coming from outside is always overexposed. These are, most likely, intentional choices made by the filmmakers.
The problem is that there is no forward momentum…
Interesting idea.... Did not quite land for me.
Subtle little indie with a romcom vibe... and an unexpected SF hook 😲! Only on my radar due to Jennifer Love Hewitt... I'm assuming anyway. This is the perfect scope for a microbudget flick. Almost no FX needed, one location, focuses on the drama. The SF is a sprinkled backdrop.
Don't get me wrong though, it's not an award winning flick. If you like watchable 🧀, may be worth your time. I also want to recommend it for SF enthusiasts who dig for unexpected gems, but as a warning it could be hit or miss depending on your tolerance levels. ... Mine is finely honed. I enjoyed this.
A wildly inaccurate depiction of what it’s like to work in a cafe. The lives of my regular customers are not in the least bit interesting, one time a guy brought his own printer in and started printing stuff off at his table and that was probably the single wildest thing I’ve ever seen a customer do.
Quirky?? Weird?? Pointless??
i have no idea was happened. why were they “avatars”? why did it have a murder/suicide? and then it all got reversed?? im so confused lol i thought it was a cute movie about a café
Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe…..
It’s bad and doesn’t make any sense 🙈 I thought some matrix stuff was going to happen. It didn’t, I’m not sure what did happen though? ☕️
if you fall asleep watching tubi, sometimes you wake up with some 2000s fever dream of a movie on. ??????????????
