  A strange film, from the underrated-for-being-strange Richard Fleischer. Che! has, initially, a strange cast: Omar Sharif (as Che), Jack Palance (as Fidel), Woody Strode and Robert Loggia. It does not have a single piece of casting that makes sense, on the surface, but to be fair to Sharif, he does pretty well with some ripe dialogue. He is charismatic enough to make Che, almost work. However, Jack Palance as Fidel Castro is as amusing as you think it would be. He looks like something out of a Woody Allen film, a bearded and glasses-wearing dictator.

  Ao que tudo indica teve o mérito de ser defenestrado tanto por admiradores quanto por haters de Che Guevara. Convenientemente enxuto e desprovido de longos discursos ou lances de heroísmo. Um tanto difícil aceitar Omar Shariff no papel-título e Jack Palance como Fidel, mas ambos os personagens são justamente construções míticas, históricas e um tanto exóticas em suas origens, não importando as máscaras dos atores que os representam, no que acabam saindo muito bem, especialmente quando imbuídos de um olhar assassino e de fúria, e sobretudo porque suas estampas vão se tornando progressivamente mais semelhantes aos das personagens reais. As intervenções com depoimentos a favor e contra o protagonista não soam colocadas a fórceps e ajudam a narrativa a avançar.…

  'Tá bem que o filme não é muito memorável (talvez apenas porque Omar Sharif trabalhou demasiado a asma de Guevara, e Palance fez o seu Fidel todo à volta dos charutos), mas dizer que é um dos piores de sempre? Vê-se mesmo que quem diz isso nunca viu obras infames como Academia de Polícia 7: Missão em Moscovo, Happy Gilmore ou qualquer uma das aventuras do cão Beethoven. Um filme bizarro na produção hollywoodesca, a que falta ritmo e substância além de meia dúzia de frases de efeito, mas que está longe do pior já feito pelos imperialistas americanos.

  How funny do you think it is to watch Jack Palance play Fidel Castro? Depending on the answer to this question, you may or may not want to watch this. Alternatively, I suppose the Fleischer Freaks - of which I am one - might enjoy some of the 'Scope compositions.

  a bizarre movie. i struggle to say i hated it but can’t quite say i liked it. it falls into a very liberal view of che, one that believes that his greater cause was good but his means of going about it were wrong. a lot of this can be chalked up to western propaganda and lies about che and the cuban revolution, but others can be chalked up to an unwillingness to accept what needs to be done during a revolution and the inability to differentiate between acts done within a revolutionary context and acts done outside of one. che and castro are then made out to be good guys that “went too far.” it tries to warp che’s…

  "An enormous amount of pressure has been brought to bear on this film – both for and against the subject. Each group is afraid we're going to favor the other. The picture will be a character study, and I will only say that it is neither pro nor anti Guevera. The printing of his diary caused only minor changes to the picture...   Not as bad as I’d been led to believe. Even if Omar Sharif is woefully miscast, he still puts his all into the role. And I appreciate the film’s depiction of its subject as a massive egomaniac, which no filmmaker alive today would have the balls to do. Jack Palance is also hilarious as Castro. However, the film’s major mark against it is keeping Guevara’s death offscreen. His becoming a good communist should have been the highlight of the picture! Oh well…

  Very unsympathetic vision of the historical character with moments of involuntary (?) humor as usual in the " Martyr (Madman) of Faith" setup (ask Buñuel if you don't believe me!).
  Jack Palance's Fidel Castro troops somehow reminds Jerry Lewis commando in "Wich way to the front?"!

  There's more truth and intelligence in this lost kitsch little gem than in your average T shirt biopic bout Che and the Revolution in LA.
