I don't think letterboxd is safe, so I'm not writing anything
The dark-psychological-crime thriller does not surprise you much in terms of its narrative structure, but the solid execution and uniquely interesting premise loaded with enjoyable meta elements, manages to keep one excited and engaged enough. Complementing the atmospheric mood seamlessly is the great bgm choice of retro songs and impressive cinematography. However after a given point, the procedurals and cat n mouse play lack edginess, feeling too conveniently superficial and starts to lose steam. The final portions end up underwhelming as well. Also the motivation reveal could have been placed better. Dulquer was fantastic and eased through his complex character, well supported by Shreya, Sunny Deol n rest of cast. The intriguing idea had a promising potential to be something really special, but the movie winds up a decent watch.
For personal reasons, I will not be reviewing this film

Chup is the type of movie that, I never even thought, can be made in Bollywood. After Raman Raghab 2.0, not a single serial killer movie from here, in my knowledge, has seriously tackled its psycho in the lead so perfectly in a desi way that you'll instantly start loving their arts of killing without asking for a visa of Italian giallos or South Korean thrillers. Here what we got from R. Balki, that's quite an exception though. A film like this exists in bollywood itself, makes this a gem and one of a kind. If only the end of second act had that energy. I was glued to the screen and was in awe of the out of the box premise. Psychopathic Dulquer was a delight to watch. Desperately need to watch kaagaz ke phool and pyaasa ASAP. Extra ½ star for just being this kind of a film.
We need cinema to feel alive. Life is so dead, flat, boring and ugly.

Watched Chup at a special screening organised by the film's makers particularly for the audience 3 days before the official release.
And it was a good one-time watch.
I must start complimenting the movie by mentioning the acting performances by the whole cast of this movie, especially DQ Salmaan and Sunny Deol (good to see that this old-time legend is finally roaring back on the big screen).
You know the concept was really good, and the movie also picked up very well giving off some Se7en vibes...but they kinda got lazy somewhere in the second half and made a generic Bollywood thriller (which you can definitely enjoy once).

I thought this would be shit buts it actually quite decent, wow an actual watchable Bollywood movie!?
Although I said it's watchable it's pretty half baked, some times it feels pretentious, and sometimes it feels genuine and self-aware. Like you can see that there is genuine thought put behind certain shots and clear homages but at the same time, it follows the cliche psycho and other 'Bollywood' elements (treating the audience as an idiot). Also, the movie is unintentionally very funny, there are several instances which is supposed to shock you but you end up laughing your ass off (yes I am referring to the last throw). The ending kinda sucked idk. If they had trimmed off certain parts and changed certain stuff I legit believe this could've been an actually good thriller.
TLDR the movie sucks soo bad that it fixed my life (DQ I'll leave my doors open)

There are two things which are lacking in the Indian consciousness:
A good genre film culture
Awareness and appreciation for Guru Dutt and his work.
To attempt a remedy for both in one film and deliver it so aptly is no mean feat.
Infusing a simple premise with the cruel wittiness of the slasher genre and layering it with a good eye on the film critique culture of this country, Chup delivers perhaps the most spectacular and chilling interval block of Hindi films this year.
As with any such genre film, it's the 2nd half which becomes critical and despite a few hurried missteps, the film delivers satisfyingly.
The Woody Allen statement was just bizarre and it would be really unfortunate if Balki believes it himself.
I need that BGM. The music is largely great, although the one romantic track didn't do much for me.
