  What the hell is Max von Sydow doing in this movie?

  Watching five minutes of The Gaul (VERCINGÉTORIX) was enough to torture me, it's that bad. The English dubbing is atrocious, the acting is bad and Christopher Lambert's wig is laughable.

  The film is known to be one of the worst French film ever produced. Yes it's bad but not that awful. I mean it's an ugly, nonsensical and boring rip-off of "Braveheart" but not weird at all (and therefore not funny).

  How about plot. What the hell was this plot?? I seriously, legitimately, tried to follow it. I even shushed my friends so I could try and understand what was happening. At first it seems like it would be a revenge tale to try and get the crown back from the person who killed the protagonists dad. He does later kill someone, it did not make it clear if it was the same person. I do believe he became king, though how he did it was not clear. This was in the first third of the film. Characters…

  Non so da dove iniziare.
  Allora, il regista è anche lo sceneggiatore e, soprattutto, è anche il produttore. Un riccone che voleva fare un film insomma.
  Ha toppato in tutto.
  Il film, a livello di eventi, è INCOMPRENSIBILE.
  Personaggi che spariscono, poi tornano, poi riscompaiono, poi tornano ma con un aspetto diverso e non capisci che sono loro. Salti temporali avanti e indietro di giorni e anni senza un minimo preavviso o logica. I dialoghi sono scritti col culo.
  Il film si chiama "Druids", ma i druidi si vedono in due scene all'inizio del film E BASTA. Il film parla di Vercingetorige che cerca di difendere la Francia da Cesare. MA NON SI CAPISCE UN CULO DI NULLA. Il bello…

  According to Wikipedia, Jacques Dorfmann was a respectable French producer, responsible for masterpieces like "Le circle rouge". As a director, he apparently made one good ("Le palanquin des larmes"), one not so good ("Shadow of the Wolf") and one career-killing movie. The career killing one is of course "Vercingétorix" aka "Druids" aka "The Gaul".

  From the first image on, you can tell, that this will be a hard sit. Two hours watching the Gauls fighting against the Romans would make a fascinating movie, but not in the way Dorfmann made it.

  "Vercingétorix" had an estimated budget of 15 Million Dollar, but you can't see any of it on the screen. The costumes look rubbish, the set design is barely worth…

  Der hier ist ja auch so ein Kandidat auf sämtlichen schlechten Filme Listen. Dabei schaut sich "Druids" wie eine richtig schlechte "Hercules" Folge.

  Unser Titelgebener Gallier Vercingétorix tut sich mit den Druiden zusammen um Krieg gegen Cäsar zu führen. Die haben nämlich seinen Vater getötet wo er noch in jungen Jahren war.

  Joa Christopher Lamber trägt schon mal die Perücke aller Perücken und gibt auch generell eine echt schwache Leistung ab. Klaus Maria Brandauer hat mal gar kein Bock und Max von Sydow holt sich seinen Paycheck ab.

  Optisch ist das wie schon erwähnt auf Hercules Niveau. Immerhin gibt es keine ranzigen CGI Efekte.

  Trotzdem ist das eher langweilig vorallem die Kämpfe. Da wird nur wild in der Luft rumgefuchtelt und nichtmal wirklich Blut spritzt.

  Immerhin ist die Mukke dauerhaft am ballern sodass man immer meint das große Geschehen kommt gleich.

  Fazit: Schon allein wegen der Perücke Pflicht.

  This was the first and only film I ever walked out from in a theater. It's boring and makes no sense. I can't believe that Max Von Sydow agreed to be in this one.
