  This type of saccharine love story, regardless of being queer or not, don’t work for me. The narrative approach wasn’t the ideal, given how little screen time the older version has. Which makes it feel more like a cheap narrative device for a payoff that doesn’t hit as hard. Also, over reliance on score to convey what was missing on character level.

  Attended the US premiere! This film is tender and painful in a cathartic way. The director made an autobiographical film about a director making an autobiographical film about male bonds that part lacking resolution.

  I resonated with experiences and responses portrayed in the film and definitely cried a bunch.

  Every once in a while a movie comes along that feels so deeply personal that you can’t help but be transported into every single emotion on screen, and Duino is that exact movie for me.

  This is a beautiful, heartbreaking story of first love and how impossible it is to forget those moments, when just one thought can send you right back. 

  I was moved to tears multiple times, not only by the incredible lead performances, but also by the beautiful craft behind the camera. This is a really, really special movie, and I’m so glad that I got the chance to see it in a theater.

  Sweet story about a director, Matias, remembering his first love and making a film of it. We spend most of our time with the younger Matias, from Argentina, and Alexander, from Sweden, who meet while going to school in Duino, Italy named for the Duino Elegies by Austrian poet Rainer Maria Rilke.
  They spend a lot of time together, which is more of a friendship than a romance. At least on one side it is. I got invested with the story and became frustrated when the film intentionally does not play out their connection in a conventional way. But that allows it to build toward a beautifully emotional scene with Matias with his parents in the car as they leave…
