Dominick DiNapoli is a man who loves food and is overweight as a result. After an obese cousin dies due to health problems, Dominick's sister Antoinette sets out to help him lose weight. Although he has a hard time trying to slim down, Dominick finds inspiration when he meets and falls for shop owner Lydia. Can he get up the courage to ask her out, or will he go back to the comfort of overeating?

This film is listed as romantic comedy, but for the most part it just made me depressed. The nearly 90 minutes of non-stop yelling and screaming also gave me a bit of a headache.
Dom Deluise does what he can with the material, but most of it falls flat, and sadly I don’t think I’ll be back for a second helping,

this is so wholesome 😭 dom tripping over himself to deliver ten rolls of pink sparkly wrapping paper to lydia’s antique store and then commenting on her rock collection 😭 lydia and dom making out in front of a demolition site while an old man stares at them 😭 that’s love 😭
The little thing I love most about this movie is the family's last name is DiNapoli and that was Anne Bancroft's mother's maiden name.

There are few films that are as sympathetic and understanding toward the plight of fat people the way that Fatso is. I love Anne Bancroft for writing and directing this movie. It's a very sweet-natured story about an overweight Italian-American man who is attempting to find love and happiness while being pressured by his family to lose weight. Not only is this a hilarious film, one that is authentic to both the Italian-American experience AND the fat-American experience, but it has a brilliant central performance by Dom DeLuise. He is just adorable in this movie, genuine and funny and moving, and should have been nominated for this role. His monologue at the end is particularly amazing.

After the death of his obese 39 year old cousin, (who’s casket was too large it didn’t fit in the hole they dug), Dom (Deluise), the titular Fatso, afraid of sharing the same fate, struggles to shed some weight.
A strange blend of stark comedy with narrowly dark undertones written, directed and co-starring Anne Bancroft. I remember watching this as a kid thinking this would be a blast, with Dom Deluise and all, but I found it depressing and I couldn’t finish it. Watching it now it wasn’t as tragic as I remembered it, but it’s certainly an odd film that may be hard to digest for some.

This movie. Is not good. if there was a movie that didn’t deserve 5 stars realistically .. it’s this! But my deep love and affection for Anne Bancroft will not allow me to rate it any lower. The things I go through for this women will be the death of me..
