You know who the inspired biographical drama is based upon. Beyond the Qs on genuine accuracies and convenient interpretations, a supremely crafted underdog story with rousing music, beautiful cinematography and strong performances always manage to sweep you over most of the times and make you emphatically root for the protagonist. Guru falls exactly in that tier. Abhishek as the cocky shrewd businessman puts on one his best performances ever. It has its set of plot shortcomings, but on the whole it makes for one solid dramatic watch.
The speech was actually six and a half minutes long.
A R Rahman, stop reminding me that you are the bestest music composer in the whole world.
i hate capitalism but i love aishwarya rai
Kind of a weird one. Gurukanth is neither likeable or admirable in his shrewd methods to gain wealth & this is fine up until the ending where he’s suddenly framed as an inspiring figure after giving a speech and shown triumphant in a final shot that feels completely unearned. At times the film feels like a possible critique or deconstruction of the typical rags-to-riches capitalist tale but by the end it loses that uniqueness. Beautifully shot & even more beautifully scored, certainly not a bad film but not great one either. Perhaps one of Mani Ratnam’s weakest.
That thing when you're making a film about capitalism and you don't want to seem too supportive nor too critical so instead you flip both the viewpoints continuously and waste 2 hours and 40 minutes of my life
Abhishek Bachchan was always talented,We just never took him seriously.
Abhishek Bachchan's most Amitabh Bachchan performance
Guru is one of the first movies of my life that I remember watching, me and my brother vibing to aaya aaya guru bhai....still do tho. Apart from all the drama, Mithun da and abhishek's emotional connection was perfect. The use of "shauk hai" in the bg is so beautiful during madhavan and Vidya sequences, I forgot this song existed. Can't describe how aesthetically the songs were shot, barso re and tere bina being the highlight. The scene where abhishek and Aishwarya sit in a swing together remembering their old days....loved it. Guru bhai bhi to masss hai.
"Main 419 dino mein bahut dur chali jaungi"
"Toh phir wo 419 din poore ke poore mujhe chahiye!"
Yehi wala madhavan chahiye 😭🤌
shall forgive all the flaws of this film for the flawless soundtrack.
watched tamil dub. Abishek bachan with surya's voice will forever haunt me
Despite hearing from many people about Guru and how it showcases Abhishek Bachchan's unseen talent, I humbly believe that other actors could have pulled off the role, perhaps even better. That said, I don’t think Abhishek is a bad actor, he’s talented, even though he comes across as a bit of a ‘pappu.’
Guru is a solid, fictionalized epic biopic, loosely inspired by the life of the great Dhirubhai Ambani. I consider it a compelling depiction of a rise from the streets to becoming one of Mumbai’s most powerful figures.
