Life of Ram hits a lot differently when you're the only soul in a big, cold cinema hall, huddled in the far-back. Like the universe didn't even push some stranger in with me, to share the film's feelings with. Something special about that.
I honestly don't know how to judge this. The whole experience was too personal. Piercingly pure. Especially when you see yourself so lucidly etched within the brutal dimensions of a frame.
Let's get the obvious out of the way: 96 is a perfect movie, which required such a precise and inimitable alchemy to become what it was, and therefore a terrible candidate for a remake.
This is not as good as 96, nor is it all that close. Nearly every casting decision is a downgrade*, and this version does not adjust the script to play to the different strengths of say, a Vennela Kishore vs. a Bagavathi Perumal. It also asks the impossible of leading man Sharwanand, in handing him Vijay Sethupathi's part unchanged, when Vijay Sethupathi--who's likely the best actor in the world today--gave probably his career-best performance in the original. Duniya ki sabhi bhaashaon mein bana do ye film, main dekhta rahunga.
Some idiots have criticized the acting performances like really? VJS comes with his reputation but that doesn't mean you have the license to be unfair to others. Both the actors have been faithful in this remake that has nothing different than the original.
never uploaded this as my whatsapp status
This is making so much more sense to me now. Hadn't realised how deeper 96 was originally operating at, when I watched it a long time ago. Sharwa is stellar as this vulnerable-adorable Ram. Sam is mostly on and off as the titular role.
Did not necessarily weep, but had my gut-wrenching moments with this conversational drama. One full star for Sharwa and the rest is for C Prem Kumar who respected the language and remade it with conviction.
Naa Venta Padi Nuvventha Vontari Anoddu Anoddu Dayonchi Yevaru...

Should have not been remade.
That Feel you get when you meet your Crush after more than 15 years and spend a whole night talking to her, This Film is that Feel!!!
Better to watch tamil version
Caught about 2/3 of this, just needed to kill some time in between uncut gems and a midnight showing of zombie so we checked this out. It’s nothing special, but it had me pretty entertained so far and was pretty funny in parts and I kinda wanna finish it sometime.
