It's the day before Christmas, the day before John's 21st birthday. He's a prostitute on Santa Monica Blvd in L.A., and he wants to spend that night and the next day at the posh Park Plaza Hotel. Meanwhile, Donner, a lad new to the streets, wants John to leave the city with him. John spends the day trying to figure out how to deal with Donner's friendship.

This is possibly the most obscure film from the list, even thought it's got a young and handsome David Arquette delivering one of his best performances to date. Johns is quite a peculiar film about two hustlers in search of a better life. On one hand, we have Arquette's character, who is sort of a jerk; he only cares about himself and craves for a somewhat lavish lifestyle. You can’t watch this film without thinking of both Midnight Cowboy and My Own Private Idaho. This takes a lot from both of them. But I really like both of those movies, so I enjoyed this for the most part.

A precursor to the sex worker Yuletide blues of Tangerine; I can’t believe it took me this long* to finally watch such a punishingly sad Christmas gem.
Brutally devastating, and this is the time of year for these types of stories to properly shine. David Arquette finest performance and few scenes are as generously sad as the exchange between him and the Park Plaza Hotel clerk regarding an impossible birthday celebration.
*seriously such a long time, since I was at least 12 and horny and googling “David Arquette shirtless” photos, subsequently printing them out and hiding them under my mattress.
