I had the choice between watching the long Bollywood version or the shorter 90 minute international version (Brett Ratner cut out the singing and dancing parts). I picked the longer version. In this one a wounded man searches for his sweetheart in the Mexican desert while on the run from the police, bounty hunters, and others. Most of the story is told in flashbacks.
I have not watched many Bollywood movies.....but I have liked the ones that I have seen so far...and that includes this one. The star of the movie, Hrithik Roshan, is a huge star in India. Apparently this movie was not up to his standards. I thought the story, the acting and the action sequences were pretty…
A stupid structure and ending hold it back but I'm feeling generous because of the sexiness and sweetness of the romance. Good vibes.
Literally a wattpad fic of Señorita from ZNMD. I had so much fun! No notes.
This film is beutiful...I liked some of the creative discussion , but at the same time I think some of the things could have been way better
- The final act of the film was really good , the ending was emotional and I really liked that
- One thing I wanna point out is that Jay & Linda's first scene together was underwater...and their last scene together was underwater too...I like such kind of symbolism and call backs
- The songs were really good....
- Hrithik Roshan delivered such a brilliant performance... absolutely nailed it
- Everything else is fine...the direction & screenplay could have been better.. but it works anyway
So at last it's a love…
Total trash. But like, my trash💎. Hrithik's fire. Story's a hot mess. Ending's bonkers. No regrets, bruh.
There's an appealing warmth to the two stars. Barbara Mori has a nice smile that's just right for this sort of melodrama. You want them to end up together. Hrithik Roshan is certainly quite pretty. Indeed, I wish there were less emphasis on his prettiness, because entire sections of Kites feel less like a movie and more like an ad.
Roshan started a fitness craze in India. His big shirtless scene is just ridiculous. The guy doesn't look human. Nobody looks like that unless they spend half a day, every day, in a gym. And how come he's got all this hair on his face but none on his chest? I can't recall a movie that was less interested in its leading lady. Kites is all about the man: dusty, bloody, wet from the rain, reflective, sad, smug, eager to please, heroic, you name it he does it.
I genuinely think this movie is so underrated and under appreciated. Unironically.
Perhaps, it has a lot to do with my love for Hrithik Roshan and that makes me like the movie even more but I’m certain there’s something underlying that just works.
‘Tis been over a decade since Kites came out and I remember being in awe of this from the get go.
Anurag Basu is known for directing off-beat films that stand out— whether they work or not is entirely debatable. He has a unique flair and a voice that’s undoubtedly creative, different, and dare I say— bold?
Hrithik steals the goddamn show with his talent, charm, and godly good looks.
Barbara Mori is gorgeous. She does and is…
There's a saying "Love has no language" and Kites somewhat worked on this quote very well. It's a generic love story but the way story is told in broken narrative and with some beautiful shots of Mexico and Las Vegas made the experience worth watching. This film would have been worst if Hrithik Roshan was not cast as Jai. What a performance by him. For the first 20-25 mins, he was a perfect con artist, then for the next 30-40 mins he was a perfect lover and in the end, he was a heartbroken guy. Hrithik's English accent was top-notch, he recorded multiple songs, he spoke Spanish well, his charismatic look with that typical "Hrithik" body elevated the film. The chemistry between Hrithik & Bárbara was arresting too.
Not a film which was very well received by the audience and Bollywood but for me the film was good and the 2nd re-watch was even better than the first watch.
Why did I choose to willingly endure this knowing how weak my heart is?? Really haven't cried like this in a while. This movie deserves so much more love than it received. I swear if this was made today and Netflix took it up, it would do so much better than it did.
I was confused at why the audience didn't respond to such a great film, it has the typical Hindi film elements and solid technicalities as well, along with beautiful storytelling and music. Yet people just skipped it. Rewatching after a long time made me realize that it was actually a big risk at the time. Perhaps too big. Half the film is in Spanish, it's set in…
The story of a love that goes beyond barriers, boundaries and cultures, defies every rule, and takes two lovers on a journey filled with precious moments and unexpected betrayal.
It is an Indian, romantic action thriller. It manages to be fairly entertaining with likeable leads.
This film is a masterpiece! The story, the acting, cinematography, direction and the freaking score man, it was all just perfect. I like how some people compare Kites to standards of Hollywood movies but in reality it was one of it's own kind. They say love has no language.. this movie depicts the same emotions when two people of different languages fall in love!!
Had to rent the Blu-ray because I refuse to watch the Brett Ratner remixed version (which is streaming on Amazon Prime Video). As far as I see it, it’s a slap in the face of Hindi cinema in the name of international appeal. From what I hear, it seems like he took out many of the things that make the movie so special.
Kites is great! A spectacular romantic thriller that knows its strengths and plays to those strengths incredibly well. Certainly a bit of a mess, but a beautiful mess. Even the cheesy stuff worked for me.
