One of the handful of Dhanush films which I never bothered to check out back then mainly coz it's a remake. Now with Thiruchitrambalam having a dream run in the theatres, thought it might be high time to watch this.
Allu Arjun films rarely get remade mainly coz it's tough to pull off his act in a different language. There's so much physicality in his performance and he brings this freakish energy to the table that's tough to ape without coming across caricaturish. Gladly Dhanush pulls off Kutty in his own style and doesn't ape AA in his performance. Also there's something about him when he is sad, it feels so personal to us. He is so good in the final 15 minutes. As for the film, it's a faithful remake with its share of commercial distractions for the bygone era. I didn't mind mostly and yeah a banger soundtrack.
this film is so annoying
ending blooper reel kinda better than the actual movie
expert product placement though

they really made my boy cry over this crazy ass girl
Remake of one of my favourite takes on love and one-sided love in particular, Aarya, Kutty was made during times when Dhanush didn’t come onto his own completely in terms of script selection and relied on remakes, formulaic commercial entertainers and his brother to score once in a while. Made by his brother’s close aide Mithran R Jawahar, Kutty is a xerox copy remake and just blindly tries to recreate stuff from the original.
With an excellent script by the mastermind Sukumar, it’s not too easy to go completely wrong with a remake. Despite that, some blunders have been made here mainly in terms of the casting and performance extraction. We all know that Dhanush is one of the best…
Watching this film everyday at the ripe age of 6 explains my (lack of) critical thinking so damn much.
Kutty - 7/10. Kutty is a movie about a man who loves a woman, who doesn’t love him back. And though this troublesome plot line is present, the movie is entertaining to a certain extent. Its a movie designed and catered towards Dhanush, and he excels in this role. He’s funny, he’s his typical self, and he’s jumping with energy here. Devi Sri Prasad’s score and songs are fun here too. Its a movie that is beaming with joy and fun, and its one of those light watches to have fun with. A good movie, but one that shouldn’t be taken seriously.
There’s a limit to how much you can ignore in the name of “it’s typical of the time it was filmed” and this movie crosses it. Every character is so stupid and infuriating but I’m a sucker for cheesy rom coms and from that aspect, it’s a fun watch.
P.s, why no one talks about how DSP used the same music from Santosh Subramaniyam in this film
Dhanush was cute af. The girl pissed me off so much she needs to go to hell. We waited till the last 10 mins of this movie for this women to change her mind
Feel my love.
