  On the blurb, this one is listed as being in English and French but this is like no 'Franglais' I've heard before. It's sooo... well, sexy man!

  The Nigerian street chatter is like a rhythmic samba for the soul. It really gets inside your head and makes you move. I found myself chair-dancing just listening to the girls talking to each other.

  In Òlòtūré, Kenneth Gyang tells the story of a young female reporter trying to get the inside scoop on the world of human trafficking from deep inside the fiery underbelly of Lagos. It's a world of hostile and violent people all out for themselves, yet Òlòtūré finds friendship in three of the local working girls.

  Òlòtūré is a film about tough topics, dealing with the world of sex trafficking and showing its processes in detail. The characters live a painful life, of poverty and exploitation, so desire to reach Europe by any means. Much of the film is in Nigerian Pidgin, representing reality and giving the film a more grounded feel. There are scenes of strong violence including rape, shot in a visceral, confrontational way that makes for uneasy viewing. Òlòtūré is a harsh movie, but it probably needs to be given the issues it is trying to raise. The story seems to trend towards reaching a cop-out ending, yet the film ultimately commits to its hopeless story. The filmmaking is solid too, with some free-flowing cinematography that displays some elegant camerawork. Òlòtūré is a dark and unsettling film of evil social forces we often ignore. It delivers its message well and compels as a bleak work of cinema.

  Directed by Kenneth Yang, it is a social commentary on the underground human trafficking business in Nigeria. A reporter decides to go underground so she can expose the dirty business? Well, of course everything goes wrong. What did you expect? I don't think there was a scene where no one was not smoking a cigarette.

  there are problems with the film and some of the acting was kind of too much, but in general it’s just such a strong film. it got me thinking how many more women are out there trying for a better life but really just get dragged into some horrible and disgusting fate. very real, difficult to watch and still a must

  A harrowing glimpse into an international sex trafficking ring that preys upon impoverished young women in Nigeria. It’s an uncomfortable and pessimistic film, uninterested in providing happy endings for characters who, in life, rarely find them. Jerky hand-held camera work lends the whole thing an additional layer of verisimilitude. This unvarnished realism is both a blessing and a curse. On the one hand, it doesn’t turn away from the truly horrifying conditions these women face on a daily basis; but on the other, it doesn’t offer much in the way of solutions or paths forward—not even the spiritual grace of something like Lukas Moodysson’s (really excellent) Lilya 4-ever. It’s an issue film through and through, and in this case it’s mostly interested…

  Nunca senti tanta raiva assistindo algo. O filme é Realista, dificil de digerir e forte. A forma como foi produzido é maravilhosa, inicia com uma atimosfera leve que se torna cada vez mais tensa e extremamente desconfortável. Simplesmente perfeito.
  obs: Ideal pra mandar a amg libfem, que defende prostituição e, adora ignorar o fato que a essa se materializa de forma desigual para as mulheres negras e empobrecidas.

  J’avais suivi un documentaire qui parlait du traffic humain entre le Nigeria et l’Italie, donc quand j’ai vu que Oloturé en parlait, je me suis dis que j’allais foncer le regarder.

  À Lagos, une journaliste joue au espionne en tant que prostitué pour exposer le traffic d’humains et découvrir un monde de femmes exploitées et de violence démesurée.  

  • Ce que j’ai aimé

  Le scénario est intéressant, je trouve que l’histoire est très bien mené. 

  L’actrice principale est talentueuse et naturelle, elle surplombe les autres acteurs très facilement. L’antagoniste (le gars de la fin) est très involve aussi dans son rôle. 

  Le fait que les gens parlent plusieurs fois dans leur langue…

  an impactful watch that truly broke my heart
