  (Watched during the 16th edition of MOTELX - 2022)

  I gotta be honest: I wasn't aware of the event this movie bases itself on prior to reading about the movie. So, when I read about it, I was really shocked that I didn't know about it. It's a rough and upsetting subject, but the movie was a solid watch, that didn't manage to envoke its full potential. While decently acted and filmed, I wish they would have taken more time to introduce the characters and the whole setting. It jumps too quickly for the event, hurting basically everything else that follows. It's still nicely handled overall, but all the emotional and shocking beats could have easily pack an even bigger punch if things were handled differently.

  I'm definitely leaning towards the positive side of the rating, which might be a 0.5 too high, but considering its subject matter, I'm giving it a bigger appreciation cause I'm really glad it exists.

  (Finally, I can also write titles like above coz I got to achieve a dream which was to attend one of these film festivals and see what its all about. This year, I had time to attend the Chennai International Film Festival (CIFF)!😍. And yeah, the reviews are almost 2 weeks late.)

  Parsley is a harrowing & no-holding-back experience that shows the brutality of the Parsley massacre of Haiti migrants in a village in Dominican Republic.   This was so brutal and dark. It was definitely impressive cinnamontography to see such dark skin at night with what seemed like natural lighting.

  I always appreciate a movie that feels so full of sound and tension that you barely notice there was no score until the end. It's possible there even was a score, but it was just subtle enough. I noticed a few pitches/white noise that was filling in a bit of the air.

  This was not fun by any means, and there were scenes I had a hard time watching. Throw this into the huge pile of historical atrocities that I'm sure most people will never hear about. It's good to acknowledge, on one hand, but this was so heavy.

  Antes de verla no tenía mucho conocimiento del contexto histórico en que se desarrolla, es desagradable lo que sucedió en ese período y todo quedó bien escenificado y muy realista en esta película, ayudado también por las correctas actuaciones que nos hacen sufrir y sentir repulsión ante lo que presenciamos. Sé que casi siempre es inevitable en este tipo de filmes pero tengo que decir que la historia me pareció un poco predecible o bastante común, lo que rompe con esto es nuestra protagonista, que es una gestante, logrando que la peli sea mucho más dramática de principio a fin.

  Bastante más dura e impactante de lo que esperaba. Algunas escenas me recuerdan en crudeza a La lista de Schindler, ahí es nada. Y la actriz protagonista, a la que tendré el honor de entrevistar mañana, esta soberbia.

  La frase “aquel que no conoce su historia está condenado a repetirla” es una muy presente en esta película. Le cabe importantemente a dos culturas que aún conviven con grandes diferencias de por medio, pero siempre amenazando de un posible conflicto político en el momento que una de las fuerzas sociales tiren un primer golpe. Y le cae como anillo al dedo a un cineasta que, con la llegada de su noveno largometraje de ficción, aún repite los mismos errores narrativos. 
  Perejil es una historia dolorosa. Sigue un momento histórico relevante de la República Dominicana, el famoso genocidio haitiano del 1937, motivado por el dictador Rafael Leónidas Trujillo. Pero ¿cómo realmente nace esta situación? ¿O de verdad nació de la nada, y así la masacre se desató y acabó con todo a su paso en una sola noche? Porque así es que se interpreta con esta película.

  Something recreating the stories about violence towards black people will always make me uncomfortable but this film really humanised the victims and made me what to enquire more deeply about the historical event. Don’t get me wrong this Parsley is beautiful. Something about the birth scene called out to me. The camera bobbin in and out the water.
