A well dramatized biographical drama that is hard hitting, disturbing and at the same time thought provoking. It strongly reflects on the prevailing stigma among people, media, police, judiciary system and the uncomfortable truth behind the injustice victimization of minority Muslims in our society. The courtroom proceedings get executed in a realistically gripping manner. Rajkummar Rao delivers a phenomenal performance. A highly recommended powerful humanistic drama.
One thing i like about Indian Cinema is its ability to recognize real-life heroes. I don't think there is a single person there who's done something extraordinary and doesn't have a movie on his life.
It's kind of weird writing a review on a movie made by someone who'll be judging my short in a week.
Hansal Mehta's hit biographical drama follows the professional life of Shahid Azmi, a renowned lawyer and human rights activist at the time who stood was most notable for representing those who faced false charges under the Prevention of Terrorism act in India. There's a decent understanding behind what shaped Shahid's professional aspirations, from the conflicts that brought a level of anger within him, his short lived affiliation with a terrorist organization and his change of path towards law while in jail. I guess it was heartbreaking to see how his past keeps creeping black on his career as he…
Beautiful storytelling. A style something Hansal Mehta has adopted quite well in films done later.
Also, talking about cinematic universe, something Rohit Shetty recently tried his hands at. Mind you, Hansal Mehta did it first. He's made Omerta and Shahid set in the same world.
A hard hitting court room drama based on the real life of Shahid Azmi. Rajkumar Rao delivers powerful performance and shines throughout the film. Applause for Hansal Mehta for brilliantly directing the film on this controversial and grey topic.
damn i didn’t know rajkumar rao could act THIS good.
Peak Rajkumar Rao
A very important biographical drama on the life of late Shahid azmi.. this film is more relevant today than ever as all of it is happening much more in today's india and there is no one to tell those stories.
Shahid is a hard hitting court room drama carried by it’s characters and story, almost everything about this movie was so good with gripping screenplay and impactful acting, it has everything.
By showing me injustice he taught me to love justice
Pirates are evil? The Marines are righteous? These terms have always changed throughout the course of history! Kids who have never seen peace and kids who have never seen war have different values! Those who stand at the top determine what's wrong and what's right! This very place is neutral ground!
Justice will prevail, you say? But of course it will! Whoever wins this war becomes justice! ~Donquixote Doflamingo
or why i love rajkumar rao
"Shahid feels real, and Mehta, to his credit, doesn’t force-fit Azmi’s story into the arc of an all-encompassing biopic, which might have made the film look dramatic and too obviously shaped. It settles for being an impressionistic portrait of a man trying to find himself and his place in the world."
