Had attempted to watch this multiple times over the years but could never get through it. I invariably would fall asleep. Somehow, this time, I was able to power through. Did not love it, although I loved Amanda Donohoe's hair/makeup and wardrobe and future Doctor Who Peter Capaldi but too broad, bawdy, Broadway dinner theater vibes with terrible pacing and uneven tone for me. I expected a little more from a Bram Stoker adaptation.

What if Dogme 95 but zombie horror?
How prescient of writer Alex Garland and director Danny Boyle to make a 9/11 movie DURING 9/11
Or rather, 9/11 happened in the middle of production
Actually, Alex Garland just ripped off The Day of the Triffids
Cold open should’ve showed us a typical day in the life of Cillian Murphy's character, 'Jim', with him waking up to go to work as a bike messenger then later getting hit by a car on…

Believe it or not fam, I had somehow never seen this growing up all the way through in one sitting. Yes, I knew every plot point going in but I ate 40mg of THC edibles, drank one half-yard of beer + one pint of beer prior to showtime in Burbank AMC 16 Dolby Atmos theater. (Sound mix was so hot I had to close my eyes during certain sequences).

Mind-blowing images and sound. Borderline abstract and impressionistic. Iconic homosocial eroticism Navy propaganda.

Tony Scott is an action movie director god.

"You learn how to cut. They simply do not have time for indulgence; you've got to get the story out. If it should occur to you to cut, do so. That's the first basic rule of cutting. If you're reading through and stop, something is wrong. Cut it. If something bothers you, then it's bad. Cut it. It's purifying. It's refining. Making it precise. Precision is one of the basic elements of poetry. Economy, they used to call it. My…
