What drove Alex to attempt the first ever solo free climb of the 3000ft tall El Capitan? The film dives into the psyche of the man and his singular love for climbing. It is careful to illustrate the high dangers of free solo climbing, to dissuade the audience from attempting similar feats. But the beautifully shot scenes may tantalize some prospective climbers. The documentary is of not just Alex and the climb, but also reflects on itself and how it affects the climb. A stellar film that will leave you with sweaty palms.

Monsters with hyperacute hearing are driving humans to extinction, and a family is left to defend for themselves. Tuna (Jim Halpert) explores this concise premise to the fullest in this thriller that was almost too long, despite being just 90 minutes. It is a well realized scenario with great moments of suspense, including a particularly strong crescendo when the family's extensive survival preparation is put to the test. Keep an ear out for the jump scares.
