Gorgeous. What a modern odyssey of emotion and the unearthing of historical, familial and personal trauma.

Keiran Culkin is obviously the man of the hour with his golden globe winning performance but this should not in any way take away from Jesse Eisenberg’s beautiful creation of a man who feels consistently overlooked, pushed aside, a man who wishes he could be his cousin whilst also wanting to be nothing like him.

As we travel further along with them we uncover more about the character’s history and this just adds to the climax of the piece on a rooftop.

A great concept; something I’ve always wondered… what happened on this spot 200 years ago.

I think it fell short at the mid point of the film, losing steam by flitting about between different stories of different families. I think if we focused more on the main family the ending would’ve been more impactful.

This is not to say the ending didn’t have me in tears- believe me it did. It felt so intimate to have been a literal fly…

I would like to say Charlotte Wells has done it again. But I can’t because this is her first feature film; and what a debut.

This film covers, even smothers, all bases and leaves one grieving their innocence and wanting to have a nap.

It is visually stunning, capturing the moods of each scene perfectly. Paul Mescal is a titan of his craft with his ability to crush your stomach through the screen.

You will finish this movie and want to call your father.

Bleak and heartwarming; a film that shows the extremities of human compassion and loneliness. I felt as if I was in the director’s palm, my head being span every which way whilst watching a gritty depiction of nowhere-town, USA.
