Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker 2019
Perhaps an even five. Continues to make me want to cry every time I watch it. Brutal and wrenching lightsaber fights, great redemption of the mess of The Last Jedi (especially with the return of Luke with that great long hair), and the finest interactions between the three main characters of the prequels. They are a fun squad to listen to. Plenty of newness with Exegol, the Sith Eternal, Kyle Ren’s first order, returning to Jakku memories on the similar-enough…

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance 1962
Phenomenal combo of idealistic and slinking-humble from Jimmy Stewart. Loved the sad ending for John Wayne—what an LBJ-looking badass and the house burning is good and emotional. One of the best closing lines for a movie I’ve heard in a while. Flogging Valance takes such a fine evil spot that it’s difficult to pin wrong on either heroes, so I’m still thinking about it.
