It’s epicness lies not just in the films length and scale, but by maximizing its ambition and ideas. For all the talk of its length, I thoroughly enjoyed the pacing with a variety of strong performances and beautiful cinematography. It provoked a lot of reflection, which is always a good sign for me.
As ever with Mike Leigh, a study of the struggles we face, the pain we hold onto too, and the eternal search for peace we strive for in everyday life. Beautiful use of sunlight to counter the internal darkness.
