I watched this while listening to three different albums during an acid trip then sat in the bathroom laughing my ass off at the reviews on this app. My favorite being “what it’s like to chew 5 Gum”. 🤣🤣🤣
    Those albums were:
    Into Eternity- Buried in Oblivion
Monolith of Phobos- The Lennon Claypool Delirium
    Modest Mouse- Strangers to Ourselves

Still stands among my favorite movies of all time. And I loooove combing through the absolute dogwater L takes in the user reviews.
Say what you will about Polanski, you’re absolutely right.
The details and symbolism replete throughout give it a subtle richness your garden variety film watcher will ignore because the movie does no hand-holding and doesn’t coddle the viewer.
It’s not action packed and doesn’t have explosions or over-the-top effects but succeeds as a quasi-noir Satanic thriller that some will dismiss as boring because they like to LARP discernment.
    It doth slappeth.

Opinions of this film, John Carpenter’s last full length feature, can be pretty polarized.
What there is to like here is, unfortunately, undercut by the uninspired premise and eye-rollingly cliche twist ending.
It’s competently shot, however and looks pretty good.
But that’s where the good stops.
The acting is stiff. Tropes are rehashed.
Duct-crawling, and dumbwaiter riding can be found here as well.
It’s like someone tried to make Shutter Island from memory.
I love John Carpenter but this doesn’t cut the mustard.
It does have a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it early appearance of Sydney Sweeney.
