Well shot with some damn scary moments. Has a steady build with lots of surprises and an interesting twist on the typical possession plot.
Also features a bad ass lesbian character so that’s always a win in my book.
Prince Avalanche is a polished and well-shot film from the tail end of the dark-humored-but-uplifting indie comedy era. It does an excellent job at feeling profound while not actually being about anything.
The movie is beautifully edited, with an autumnal color palette and lots of natural light. The cinematography is so great it makes it almost feel like the plot is as well.
The film attempts some half-hearted surrealism, like they were afraid if they committed it would make things too interesting.
My favorite part of the movie was Paul Rudd’s mustache.
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
I did not enjoy this movie but I find my mind frequently going back to the world it was set in. The set design is brilliant and vast and enthralling and the film decides to center around an annoying little snot. Sam is an annoying corporate cog who somewhat stalks a woman from his dreams. I completely checked out when she start showing interest in him. Another beautiful film wasted on a creepy and meaningless hetero romance plot line.
The movie would have been sick if it was about Robert De Niro’s character.
I cannot believe how many times the shooting of this film personally interrupted my commute in Los Angeles just for it be such utterly fucking dull. Truly one of the most disappointing and boring movies I have ever seen. I can’t remember the ending because I think I actually turned it off to stop wasting my time.
