The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey 2012
I was pretty disappointed by the Hobbit movies. Watching them again a few years later didn’t improve things either. It’s a shame because I love Tolkien’s books and The Lord of the Rings movies. Apparently, I’m not alone in feeling this way—there are several fan edits that completely rework the Hobbit trilogy.
I ended up watching the M4 Book Edit, which condenses all three extended editions into a single 4-hour film that sticks much closer to the book. It felt…Translated from by -
Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence 2004
Okay, I definitely need to watch the film again to fully understand it, because Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, like its predecessor, is packed with philosophical themes. And that’s exactly what makes it fun again. Dualism of body and mind, the loss of humanity through merging with machines, the meaning and authenticity of human perception, or the ethics of creation – just to name a few. Decision to Leave 2022
I've always kind of avoided Park Chan-wook. Oldboy didn’t really convince me when I watched it about ten years ago, despite all the hype. One or two other attempts to get into Korean cinema also left me rather underwhelmed.
But "The Handmaiden" and now "Decision to Leave" finally won me over and they felt… refreshing? The cinematography, editing, pacing—everything seems meticulously thought out and often incredibly creative. The stories are intricate, full of twists and turns, constantly leaving the viewer puzzled.
At this point, I’m convinced: Chan-wook is a master of his craft. Looking forward to more!

Last and First Men 2020
"The stars have their beginnings and their ends. For a few moments, somewhere in between, a few, very few, may support thought."
This film is the definition of atmospheric. Stunning music, stunning visuals, and Tilda Swinton explaining how humanity evolves over the next two thousand million terrestrial years. Love it.

Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb 1964
Day by day, I'm baffled by the absurdity of world politics. Seems it has always been this way. A brilliant depiction of the immense threat of the Cold War and its complete absurdity. Still as relevant now as ever.
