Screwball comedy Chinese style, with charming acting and plenty of slapstick.
Life goes on, even against a background of war, economic collapse and impending revolution. Boy meets girl, boy loses girl etc
It's a charming satire of love and shopping set in a French mall, with geeky songs and Choreography. I like the Greek style chorus and the pastel shades.
A brilliant slice of Eighties consumerism. It kind of inspires me to construct a list of weird satirical mall films, but after this an Dawn of the Dead, I ran out of inspiration.
It's a demented version of Mrs Doubtfire The Musical, only set in a Mexican cartel rather than a New York apartment, and played straight.
At times the musical numbers approach "Springtime for Hitler" levels of absurdity, and with style. Great choreography and cinematography, and nuanced performances by the 3 principal actors.
It's darkness and brutality counterpoint some really quite sensitive moments.
The Trans-politics? Don't even go there.
As bad as it sounds.
The first 15 minutes are OK, focusing on a millenial stuck mentally in her teens while her friends have grown up.
It gets worse when she lies about the cancer, and the ending is even worse.
A comedy where the jokes and situations just aren't funny doesn't work.
