Much has been said about the choices the director made about his challenging non-linear layout here.
He challenges traditional storytelling that much more by not just using a reverse or jumping chronology because within each of its three segments there are things that appear not just disjointed but are seemingly impossible when thinking about what has happened and what happens next. Characters are in places they shouldn’t be and they are difficult to spot as clues.

Language is used brilliantly to affect how we view Sandra. Smart. Sandra, as novelist, also shifts our perception of her and what she may or may not be capable of, as points of views shift repeatedly by one character or another. The ambiguities in this film are linchpins.

As I check boxes for what to me makes a great noir, this could appear to fall short on paper.
To my bones and gut however, this may be the most, dynamic, voluptuous and shocking of the film noirs I have seen.As for the ending—what a weird coincidence that I should unknowingly watch this immediately after seeing Oppenheimer. I did not see that coming.
