I always thought this was overrated, but upon the latest viewing I realised it deserved the plaudits. One of the all-time greats: quote after quote, flawless scene after flawless scene. The way Shawshank redemption has emerged into the epitome of a cult classic is completely justified (controversially don’t think it warrants top spot on IMDB though). This has to be one of the strongest all round acting performances from the completely believable cast. However I’d question the longevity of the…

Prisoners is such a strong film, the ultimate mystery thriller. The acting is actually phenomenal and the storyline is super tight. The gritty and bleak setting remains throughout, and enhances the sorrowful situation that’s going on around it. Villeneuve is an incredibly varied director - Prisoners has a hint of Fincher about it, which is a compliment based on his own track record. Inception for the last 10 years has been in and around my favourites. It has now been consolidated as my favourite film ever. The sheer spectacle of the film, the script, the acting, cinematography, storyline is so immense and flawless; Nolan is the only visionary who can pull off Inception. A lot of criticisms for inception quote that it’s too complex. While certainly true to an extent, this is the pure genius of the film in that each subsequent viewing…

Not much analysis here, just reciting the sentiment that this is one of the best films ever. I’m so here for the Orcs, and think the reason why it’s such a resounding success is the attention paid to the development of Saruman and Sauron; most adventure films lack a thrilling enemy. I am shocked it’s a 12a, because some of the scenes are genuinely terrifying and the costume design is second to none
