I don't know how many more of these watered down, Stepford Wives rip-offs I can take. I lost count of how often I cringed at how smug and delighted with itself this film is. It felt like the director wanted us to be sincerely impressed by its childish interpretation of incelly, online misogyny and the stupid female empowerment finale.
Horrendously shite film, every aspect of it fell flat, took years off my life.

Pretty enjoyable flick, I wish I hadn't disassociated so much in Sunday School so I could've appreciated more of the religious references.
The fractured back and forth of the timelines didn't do much for me, I would've liked to have got more of an idea of Jacob's personality so I could be more invested in what happens to him. I felt the ending was a little anti-climactic, I think I've seen too many "life within death" films at this stage for it to feel revelatory anymore. I can imagine how shook audiences would've been at time of release though.
I never finish an Andrea Arnold film and have a clear response or understanding, they end up knocking around in my head for months after. Red Road is so rich in meaning and a close second behind Fishtank in my favourite of her films. How mad is it that this was her first full-length flick as well??
