High and Low 1963
Completely hypnotic - from the storytelling to the visuals. It's easy to go into an older film expecting it to feel sluggish and clunky in comparison to modern day thrillers which use all the latest flashy editing tricks and camera tech to keep you glued to the screen, yet this film simply does that with animated actors and clever blocking, techniques that often feel like forgotten arts.
Time to go and revisit some more Kurosawa films!
P.S. Spike Lee pls don't mess the remake up

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker 2019
Rey and Kylo fighting in the wreckage of their ancestors war is pretty poetic but honestly nothing beats Rose risking the entire galaxy just to "save the things we love".
On a serious note, there are some pretty spectacular moments in not only this film but the entire new trilogy - particularly between Kylo and Rey. It's just so so so unfortunate that it's all punctuated by this dumb obsession with nostalgia baiting and trying to outdo the previous films.…
