  Aesthetic-wise this film is excellent. The surreal visuals kept me engaged as did the fairly light plot. The themes just did not resonate with me at all.

  Judging by the acclaim for this movie from some sections of society and the confusion coming from others, perhaps it's one that some "get" and others (a bit like myself) just don't quite understand on that deeper level.

  Finally, Riz Ahmed is getting the attention he deserves with his performance for Sound of Metal, playing a musician, Ruben. I loved his work even before his roles in Jason Bourne and The Sisters Brothers, he was excellent in Nightcrawler and really powerful in Four Lions. This is his joint best performance (in my opinion) with Nightcrawler and I'd love for him to win the Best Actor Oscar but I think Hopkins might take the award for The Father (which…

  Bruce Willis's best. John McTiernan's Best. Best action film of the '80s. Best Alan Rickman performance. Best one-liners in any action flick.

  And to top it all off, it takes place at Christmas.
