  Would make a great triple bill with Mulholland Drive & De Palma’s Sisters. Silly, inspired, trashy & lovingly made. Way more batshit than it initially lets on.

  This movie is straight up using civil rights imagery to argue unequivocally for AI personhood in 2025 & while I guess that is bold it also feels woefully tone-deaf and poorly thought-through.

  Can imagine this would make for a fun graphic novel, but it makes for a high gloss, aggressively meh movie, with a weak script & actors who aren’t doing anything more than what is demanded of them, which is not much. Some fun production design, and my kids loved it. But deeply forgettable.

  Can’t hate this. Cate Blanchett & her office design deserve 3.5 stars on their own. The other half 0.5 star is for all the other sets & all the other actors, all of which are fantastic. 

  
  Overall, its a satisfying, dark little gothic melodrama that probably could have been a great miniseries with more backstory.
