Love Is the Devil: Study for a Portrait of Francis Bacon 1998
Is my lover to be my assassin, or I his?
Tender and disturbing in equal measure. So many of the same feelings I get when I look at Bacon’s paintings came up here, but the mutual torture in the love story added a sadness and beauty that I hadn’t really seen in them before. A very special film.Bacon’s home and studio is done so well. Shoutout to bath in da kitchen fr
Also, I saw so much of Queer in this. Daniel Craig is so good at selling obsession and addiction and piercing blue eyes.

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
I am really not a fan of Jane Austen but I usually have an ok time watching film adaptations of her novels, which is what happened here. I didn't like the pastel colour scheme very much and Bill Nighy seemed too strong, visually, to be able to pass as the sickly, hypochondriac father. Anya Taylor-Joy was stunning and charming and the proposal scene was very very sweet in a way that wasn't sickly to me. Isobel Waller-Bridge's soundtrack was my favourite part of this film.
