So funny to watch good directors pretend to love late 19th-century film. I mean it was important, but it wasn't good. Like "She deserved an Oscar for that performance" really? That woman deserved an Oscar for silently rolling down a hill? Keanu Reeves did that down 5 flights of stairs and didn't win an Oscar.
Absolute best moment was at the beginning, when Julie Taymor (who is described in the lower third as "filmmaker" which, technically, she is, but...) said…

This is modern Hamlet. It’s hard to describe how perfect the action was, it just needs to be seen. And the foreshadowing and attention to detail run so deep that I will be watching it again within the week. When the revolver ran out of bullets, I was legitimately angry with myself for not counting the shots after the movie had shown how important such details were. Action-comedies are back.

The choreography was bad.
Which is disappointing because I quite like the choreography of the original. And frankly, the problem is that this choreography is similar. In a theatrical performance, the viewing angle is almost randomly determined and thus the show is choreographed as if orthographically projected onto the proscenium. In Wicked even more so, because the proscenium is utilized and thus emphasized dramatically. And I’m sure if I was in the crew, looking out past the natural wall created…Translated from by
