And the mysteries of love come clear…
Watched this last night as the first part of my mourning journey for David Lynch, and I’ve had the songs stuck in my head all day. I’m in the middle of a Twin Peaks rewatch and it’s interesting how much this feels like a spiritual prequel to that, lots of thematic and stylistic overlap. So many people have written about this so much better than I could, but I can’t take for granted…
The slaughterhouse turned inward. Very well paced. Good use of bones. Love a meditation on the corporeal form. I liked how there’s some humor woven into the horror, including some great slapstick. Rob Zombie really made this his whole personality huh.
The city of Toronto’s single greatest cultural achievement
This film is kind of pre-spoiled because the climactic scene is the most well known image of the movie, but that doesn’t take away from it at all. The kickers afterward really take it up a notch too. Feels a bit sloppy at times but pulls off some well-earned iconic imagery.
