When I was a kid, the local bullies called me Rowley because of my resemblance to him. It used to pain me. But now after this rewatch I’ve understood that those bullies missed the true meaning of this film

Golem 1979
This is a movie that really needs a lot of attention to fully appreciate. Im still left mostly baffled by the complex motion of storytelling, and the way the film moves like a memory of a dream. The senseless notion that nothing is real, and that everybody is more apt to tell your own story more than you is really amazing and disorienting. It just felt like you the narrator were disassociated from your own life; and only the people that you barely talk to could fill in those gaps.

To directly compare this to it’s inspired text would be a shame to the film’s individuality. I came in expecting a retelling of Anna Karenina, and was immediately swept by the inspiring take on the story, spun in a new light, about a woman who devotes herself purely to love, and tragically is still left with nothing.
