Ngl was NOT expecting this movie to open with that Turkish kiss kiss Şımarık song. Also didn’t realize how short Denis Lavant was until they were all stomping around him in that circle like halfway thru the movie

The history behind the production of this movie is undeniably interesting. It had a $30,000 budget partly funded by the Senegalese government. Because the French government had no involvement in producing/funding the film, Mambéty had a lot more creative autonomy. (Would have been interesting to see which parts the French government would have censored/cut tho)
I’ve heard so much about this movie being a post-colonial masterpiece and I gotta agree. I was thrown off by the what seemed like gratuitous…
