Last Life in the Universe 2003
An unique take on the 'opposites attract' genre. Surreal, dreamy, meditative and most of the dialogue was in broken English. Christopher Doyle, as usual, dosed the film in visual ecstasy and the director guided his two broken characters on their journey to nowhere. Pay close attention to a certain poster that shows up for another film starring Tadanobu Asano directed by Takashi Miike.

Petite Maman 2021
Beautiful tender film. I watched it with my wife and five year old daughter. We verbally translated the film while watching and my daughter was fascinated by the concept and understood the idea. The director continues making minimalist films that strike the center of my beating heart. Hearing my daughter cackle at the pancake scene was worth everything.
