Watching this over for the second time, I was a little annoyed with the first act of this film, it took fucking forever to get to the real meat of the film and also Guido is a fucking simp bro. Holy shit. The entire first act is fucking painful. Guido simping and being annoying as shit, holy fuck. The rest of the film is saved with the last 2 acts obviously. My favorite part upon rewatching is the scene where Guido plays the music for his wife through the window.

I think this is the first movie I’ve seen in theaters on Christmas Day. That being said, I kinda wish I stayed home.

I loved The Lighthouse so my expectations for this film was high but I feel like the horror aspect didn’t really thrive in this movie as much as it is just a straight up gothic tale with some demonic/body gore elements mixed in. If I knew that going in, I may have calmed my expectations a bit but nonetheless, it was fine and definitely not a terrible film but my least favorite for Eggers so far.

It’s a deep dive into how in society we look at ourselves based on our value, how we look at women, but it never tries to offer a solution or never tries to display a call to action. Instead, it plays…
