  In the current film environment, it's a masterpiece, which is to say that "Soul" is a truly exceptional movie with serious, legitimate depth. In terms of writing, it settles one of the major problems with children's movies today - that many of them are sickeningly generic and intellectually poisonous, teaching kids lessons like 'be yourself' without exploring the normative problem of how to achieve such ideals in our imperfect world.
