At no time did I find this man to be the king of New York.
The first half was promising, settling a gritty atmosphere and an intriguing main character, but the movie doesn’t take the time. I think it could have been way longer, to develop more the secondary characters and the influence Frank has on the city. Christopher Walken’s charisma is phenomal, but the storyline and direction are quite generic.

What I like in Third Stage is that it takes time for all the characters and subplots. In fact, all this movie is kind of a subplot. This is a farewell to a bygone era before Project D. This chemistry, this warmth between the characters is something the later stages will lack… It favors scenes to emphasize the relationships, for example Natsuki's rescue.
What is fascinating with Initial D is to observe the artistic and technological evolution through the stages.…
