"All the evil man commits, is no measure of the evil that torments him."

Another solid reason perpetuating my notion that all Polish cinema is absolutely horrifying. This film is a staggering achievement not only for its time, but for all time. True horror is found in subtlety. In quietness. Not in flashy or exaggerated moments of provocation. This is, to me, one of the scariest films I've seen. Of course that's a personal…

"For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God."

Hell on earth. As man roams this self induced landfill, concerned with the useless material world, he scorns others and hides from what is True. The beasts suffer at the hands of the fortunate and their sins. But it is not the fools who are damned - it is those who do not seek. Those who do not live in fear, those who turn…

Simply incredible. It's difficult to pick between this and The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly (1966) as the superior picture. The introduction of Frank and Harmonica, as well as the ending conflict have entered into my list of greatest cinematic moments I have ever seen.

Really, I'm at a loss for words when writing this review. This is a must see for any film lover and will remain as a hallmark in my cinema watching journey. An all time classic.

Had I not seen Yojimbo first, I likely would've thought much higher of this film. Still, it teeters on a 4.5 rating because I just love Sergio's style of filmmaking. In a lot of ways, it improves upon complaints I had from the source material like the more serious soundtrack that doesn't undercut the dire nature of the conflicts. Clint Eastwood's "No-name" character does perfect justice to the samurai protagonist from the original. However, there are some minor adaptation differences…

Should have counted how many times they said patriarchy and broke the 4th wall

    New age snl, the movie

    Edit:
Came back to write that my gripes with the film are not with the feminist messaging - although at times, it is too heavy handed and not well done and I do not trust the general audience to be smart enough to recognize moments of satire or the social mirror as it is occurs, thus creating an opposite intended effect.…

"Changing the body changes society. Changing society changes the soul. Changing society changes it all"

Just when I thought Maestro (2024) would be the worst Oscar bait for years, it was one upped by this abomination. The cherry on top is the number of nominations it received but, of course, this isn't new to the Oscar's. This has been standard in the history of the embarrassing awards show that represents the taste of film in the United States.

    A horrible person…
