  One of my favourite aspects of film is cinematic winks, a subtle sign to brace yourself, buckle up, and get ready. This film adds a new favourite to my list: the moment when, after repeatedly passing up the drink, he finally gives in, sealing his return to violence.

  First viewing on the big screen today. I regret it. Now I can never watch it any other way.

  Much is said about the Paris sequences, the explosions and the folding buildings, but seeing it on a large screen, that Mombasa sequence is an overlooked visual flourish.

  Bizarre to think that among the few films that have wrung me dry, left me wishing for more hands to wipe the tears away, a '70s espionage film sits among them. Particularly that scene, Harry, for once, opening up. Stirring the sweet delusion of a possible chance to reunite with Amy. Only for Meredith to cut through it with a bitter but obvious truth:

  "How would I know that he loved me?"
